I used this site when I taught Art to 3rd and 4th graders. We were doing a month long unit on Renaissance artists. This site offers a unique 3D replica tour of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, Rome on your computer or iPad. Students can take a virtual field trip to Rome and zoom in to get an up close and personal look at Michelangelo's masterpiece.

I love this website<this is such a great way for kids to learn about such wonderful pieces of art work that many of hem might never get to see in real life, love the Q&A and the prayer link. I also love the HD photo gallery
Deletegreat choice for Art and history
I really liked this site. I think it so nice that technology can bring the experience of a museum into the classroom.
DeleteI love 3-D virtual tours! This one is great. The sounds really make it feel like you are there! I like the narrative and how it tells you the story of each section as you walk. Great site! You do such fun activities with your students!
DeleteI absolutely love this site and see such great potential for more websites just like it! Kids learn a lot about history through museums and actual tours, yet we don't have the budgets to go tour Italy, let alone the local museum. This is such a great way to give access to the kids that otherwise would never get to experience these places!
DeleteWhat a great way to integrate history into art. Also such a cool experience for the students to get exposed to art in places they might not otherwise see. I like this idea!

DeleteI love the site, music, narratives and most importantly the art! I actually felt like I was in the Vatican. I can only imagine how the students will feel. It will collaborate well within a history lesson and allow access to understanding for different learners. Wonderful!
DeleteYes this site was truly a great find!! Please bookmark it!
DeleteStephanie,
ReplyDeleteThis is truly beautiful.
Aubrey
My students thoroughly enjoyed it!
DeleteThe site I looked at was the National Art Gallery for kids. There are several components to this site that could be useful. In one section there are three art based lessons. There is also a newsletter, learning resources and a section called adventures in art that highlights art pieces that are student friendly. The really fun part is that there are 15 interactive art creating activity’s. These activities are based on famous art work so they could easily be incorporated in to art or art history.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link: http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/education/kids.html
I like this sight kids can crate interactive works of art. Lots of great art making tools for thinks and for the teachers love that its totally dedicated to kids. Have you used any of the tools in the site in your class. I was just wondering because of the Integrated lesson you did on art with landscapes. you also had a good grasp of art concepts. I will be sending sometime on this site for sure
DeleteNo Audrey, I have not used this site with kids but, I explored all the games and thought most of them were useful. My undergrad is in art so that is probably why I have a grasp of art concepts.
DeleteTana,
DeleteThis is a great resource for students to find all styles of art! Thanks for the link.
Tana this looks like a cool site to explore. I really like how it is interactive and explains the different art concepts. I would also be interested in checking out the iPad app. Fun! Thanks for the link.
DeleteJenny
What a neat site! I loved how interactive it is and what a wide variety of art idea there are in it!

DeleteTana,
DeleteI loved this site! its very interactive and I think it kids would be very engaged with it.
Tana,
DeleteI love how this site caters to not only kids, but teens, adults, and families!
When I was in Mary Synder's Curriculum and Instruction class, she introduced us to a method of teaching style that is called Whole Brain Teaching. This type of teaching involves direct instruction as the teacher interacts with the students through movement. The students are encouraged to visualize, draw, and use drama as they develop new ideas, in order to retain them.
ReplyDeleteHere is a youtube link to see how it's done:

Robin,
DeleteWhole brain teaching is great. I've only seen it done online, never in a real class. Hopefully by the time I am in my own room I can implement some of the strategies.
I just watch a TED Talks video titled, "The magic that makes the brain learn: Kim Bevill at TEDxCrestmoorParkED" It talks about the benefits of movement within a classroom.

I loved this video Robin! My favorite part was when she said we have never been known for standardized test, we are known for creativity and innovation.
DeleteGreat video! I feel like it's harder to find information about movement compared to other arts. This was a great resource!

DeleteThanks for sharing! I loved how it gave information on movement. Thanks for sharing. This was very informative.
DeleteI chose 2 sites because teacherhub provides a great teacher service for connecting with other educators, not to mention a great list of why we need to integrate the arts. Teacherhub is a great tool for teachers to collaborate and share their ideas! I also listed educationcloset because they had some awesome premade lesson plans. I think a lot of us forget that integrating the arts does not always mean we have to "reinvent the wheel" there are resources out there for when our creative juices aren't flowing or when we just don't have the time. The lesson plans on this site are very well laid out and clearly integrate the arts in a meaningful context.

Why to integrate the arts

Lesson Plans :)
Like this website they have some really creative lesson plans teacher can integrate across curriculum, if they are unsure how to use the arts as part of their curriculum(education closet). i love the 12 tips that the teacher hub provide to help teacher integrate art in their class. i think one of the biggest problem with art integration is teacher have no ideas how to purposefully use it in their class, beside been a filler activity
DeleteWow, this is a great resource. Do you know, is it free? I think this would be especially helpful for providing ideas in areas where one is a little weaker. For me music is not something I'm comfortable with so I think this site may come in handy.
DeleteThanks for the links! The Education Closet is a great resource for some free lesson ideas. After exploring it a little more it has a tremendous amount of information and ideas for teachers. The strategy section was really good and it is something I will go back and explore some more!!
DeleteJenny
Audrey,
DeleteI completely agree that a lot of teachers struggle with incorporating effective and meaningful art integration! The more we can learn about it and see the difference, the better we will be as educators. I definitely plan on incorporating these 12 tips in my classroom as well!
Tana,
DeleteThe materials are free to use! A lot of the lessons focus on art, but I definitely saw some for music as well. Hopefully you got a few more music integration ideas from our lessons we taught as well! (Peterson brothers - look them up on youtube for hilarious farming videos :) )
Jenny,
DeleteI was also pleasantly surprised by the large amount of information on educationcloset! I feel like it's one of those well kept teaching secrets that needs to be explored more. Have a great time exploring and a wonderful teaching future!
Kelsey,
DeleteI liked the resource teacher hub. It is great that it allows teacher collaboration. This will be very helpful when integrating the arts into our classrooms. Thanks for sharing.
Kelsey,
DeleteBoth sites are wonderful resources for teachers. It's especially great for teachers who do not feel as though they are "art" savy and can gain lesson plans and knowledge on how to integrate Art into their daily lessons!

ReplyDeleteI stumbled upon this website that could potentially be a really lucky discovery. I will definitely be exploring here some more. It is called Classroom Aid and the specific section that I was reviewing is: Resources for Teaching Arts and Music:Top free resources for teaching and learning Arts and Music. It has several link to other sites that for tools and resources to use to teach art and music in the classroom. Here is just an example of a few:
ReplyDeleteGoogle Arts Project - Explore over 250 museums and over 40,000 artworks from around the world.
Science of Music - series of lessons and activities about music through online exhibits, movies, and questions. You can compose, mix, dance, drum, experiment, and listen.
Artrage2 - A high quality art program with an intuitive user interface that allows the selection of medium, texture and colour.
You can explore these resources and many others at:

Great choice this is a very extensive site, I didn't get to look at all the links and there components but this is a very good discovery you made by accidents . there is so much information on each site that a teacher can have endless materials to use in art, music . I also like the visual presentation and imagery that each site hae really gets your attention
DeleteI love this site. I came across it while doing another project. I love the idea of google art project, because one who has the money to get all of those prints and two its kind of like going to the museum. these kind of experiences are so important for student especially from low income house holds that may not have the same opportunities as others.
DeleteHi Audrey,
DeleteSame here. I didn't have time to looke at everything, but plan to explore some more now that classes are over :)
Jenny
Hi Tana,
DeleteI agree. It is a great way to expose students to contemporary and famous art right in the classroom.
Jenny
Jenny,
DeleteI love the diversity of these sites and the ample examples they give for help! I think it's great that you accidently discovered this! I will definitely be using these ideas and links in my classroom.

DeleteJenny,
DeleteI'm really intrigued with the Science of Music. What fun it would be to incorporate into lessons!
I chose this website because it provided great ideas for teacher to integrate the arts into their lesson. The site also have resources the teachers can use to integrate the arts into their lesson based on student’s interest. Information on how to use art integration, common core and AI, STEM approaches. There is a lot of ideas and information teachers can use for all grade levels. Just have to play around navigating the different extension on the web page

I so appreciate that you found a site for early childhood education and arts. this is very helpful. Do you need to sign up for this site, does it cost money, or is it just a site you can go to?
DeleteYes, but you can get free access to certain projects they are doing you just have to play with the site to find the free stuff

DeleteAudrey,
DeleteThere is so much information on this page! Thank you for the share.
This seems so helpful! and practical! I love that it includes the standards and necessary curriculum! This is something I will use and refer to, to help me integrate the arts in a practical way.

DeleteA perfect resource in so many different ways! It will come in handy.Thank you!!
DeleteAudrey,
DeleteI liked this resource. It seems very helpful when planning art integration lessons and is free. Thanks for sharing.
There are so many great resources out there! The one I want to share is betterlesson.com. This site is filled with common core aligned lesson plans. There are three categories: ELA, math, and next gen science. After choosing which category you are looking for, it provides subcategories for each subject, then takes you to the particular standard. All of the lessons are free and most integrate arts in some form!
ReplyDeletehttp://betterlesson.com/
Taylor,
DeleteI am so thankful you found a place that uses common core aligned lessons! It seems like there are a lot of great lessons out there, but the alignment with standards isn't always easy to find, or it simply isn't there. I think that integrating the arts might be the easier task rather than trying to align to all the standards!
Hi Taylor,
DeleteNice find on this site. I love that there are so many ideas on how to blend lessons while still keeping in line with common core. It seems like this is going to be one of our bigger challenges as teachers.
I feel the same as Kelsey. I love that this site uses common core lessons. It makes it more practical for me. I think sometimes I get excited about lessons that don't integrate standards enough. This lesson will keep them balanced.

DeleteArt Safari is a fun, interactive site that students can use to explore their feelings and thoughts through artwork. The site presents students with art and the students then write a story about what they see. The site offers students questions about each picture to help guide their thoughts and story. The students would use clues in the picture, color schemes, etc to help them decide where their story takes place and other important details.

Educational closet offers free daily articles, lesson seed downloads and fifty lesson plans k-8. The focus is Steam and art integration in schools. Under their recourse section they connect common core and assessment to art integration. They also make technology connections with the arts in this section. There is a consulting service on this website that can be virtual or in person. They also have a newsletter that you can subscribe to. The newsletter I looked at offered ideas for integrating art and common core standards for students with special needs. I would recommend this site, it felt easy to navigate and practical.

Shauna,
DeleteI love education closet. The best part about it is many of the lessons list the common core standards along with the Arts standards. Also the lessons are very detailed with instruction and some even include a rubric. excellent website.
I chose a site called Pixton. It is a fun and a great way to integrate art and technology while incorporating a content area of your choice. It was easy to set up and offers a multitude of different options when choosing a character or setting etc. I would definitely recommend this site. A great introductory tool for students to create an autobiography at the beginning of the school year. Check it out...can you guess who my character is?
